Australian Golden Star Sapphire - Oval Cabochon - 11.62ct
An extremely rare natural Australian golden star sapphire oval cabochon. Not many people know that Australia produces some stunning star sapphires. Only a small proportion of the sapphires mined have the desired characteristics that will produce a natural six-rayed star when cut as a cabochon. Sapphires form as a six-sided crystal and when they have the right arrangement of naturally occurring very fine needle-like silk inclusions and cut correctly orientated, an amazing star will appear. These are best viewed with a single light source and the sun is the best of all.
This sapphire is particularly rare and exceptional owing to it’s excellent translucency, golden hues and well defined star. It also has several bronze bands which add another dimension to the gem. These have been placed such that they look like a broad vista of earth stretching to the horizon and the way the star moves it looks like the sun rising at dawn. This is a very highly recommended star cabochon and will suit either a ring or as a centrepiece of a collection.
