Sapphires will be selected from the following lots:

Please read the following as it’s important:

  • No partial returns will be accepted. In other words, you won’t be able to select one single stone out and return all the others. There will be no refunds in this instance and return postage will be charged before stone are returned back to you.

  • A restocking fee will be charged for (full) returns to cover time and handling, etc.

  • Please don’t ask for photos and videos of individual stones.

  • If you require very accurate colour matching to a ring stone or to the remaining stones in a ring to replace one that has fallen out, a photo is of very limited use. It is best if you bring the piece into my office to be matched or send it to me so that I can ensure as best a match as possible. An additional fee may be charged.

  • If you require a parcel of stones to be all perfectly matched, it’s unlikely it’s going to happen. By their very nature, Australian sapphires are each and every one of them unique. No two will be identical in colour. Nature doesn’t work in perfects. With Australian sapphires colour is very much a spectrum rather than specific hues. Blue covers quite a range of blues, same for green, yellow, and so on. While I will endevour to do my best please allow for some variance in colour. If you really, really need all the stones to be super perfectly matched, it is best if you come in to my office and do it yourself. I’m not trying to be difficult here, I just want to be clear that colour matching is surprisingly difficult and time-consuming with small Australian sapphires. An additional fee will almost certainly be charged.

  • Where the primary (or dominate) colour has a tint or secondary colour, I will designate that minor secondary colour first, ie: [Secondary][Primary]. So if I describe a stone or lot as blue green then when looking at it the first impression is that it’s a green stone but there is a bit of blue about it, what that bit is could be anything, like a 30/70 split 45/55, etc. Oftentimes It can be quite a subtle thing judging where a colour falls. The amount of each colour present influences how strongly one dominates over the other and when a stone is pretty well evenly distributed or close to it it can be hard to pick. I might think it’s blue green but you might think it’s green blue. As a result of this there is almost certainly some overlap between lots. Remember, colour is a spectrum.

  • Because colour is hard to “perfectly” match, if you require say five stones for a ring band it might be best if you order perhaps seven or eight stones to give yourself the best chance of getting five really good matching ones (and no you can’t return the remaining two or three stones… keep them for a pair of studs or side stones or something). As previously mentioned, you are welcome to come in and match them yourself.

  • When describing colour I generally use the following:

    • Yellow

    • Green Yellow

    • Yellow Green

    • Green

    • Blue Green

    • Green Blue

    • Blue

  • When multiple colours are reasonably distinct I will use parti but remember that the vast majority of Australian sapphires are technically parti colours… think blue/green for example. Parti colours will often have a fairly obvious yellow colour zone.

  • If you are looking for teal than that’s going to be tricky. Teal basically falls into the blue/green-green/blue groupings and for me personally only applies to a very specific hue that is hard for me to describe… you know it when you see it. Out there in the marketplace teal is a term that is pretty loosely thrown around, just like padparadscha sapphires or pigeon-blood red rubies.

  • Sometimes I might describe a lot as light or dark. Where this happens I must have thought that some of the stones were a little bit lighter then others and I made the attempt to separate them out. Bear in mind that Australian sapphires are all quite well saturated and determining the level of saturation is very subjective. So there might not actually be too much difference and probably some overlap between lots.

  • With sizes there might be some slight variance between stones. One stone might be 3mm, another 2.8mm and another 3.1mm. That’s the nature of these small melee gems. They have been commercially cut as has all melee gems out there. This slight variance also applies to how symmetrical the shape (round, square) of the gem is. If you require all the stones to be perfectly matched in colour, size and shape then come into my office and go through the stones to select out the ones that will suit. This will save time and money for everyone and ensure you get the stones you want.

  • Quantity is for whole carats. If you require a certain number of stones, so long as the total carat weight is over the minimum, no problems. Just add what you think the quantity of carats might be to your order. When you later submit (checkout) your order to me include a note about how many stones you actually require so I know.

  • Please feel free to contact me first if you have any questions before ordering melee stones. I’m more than happy to help and answer any questions as best I can.
