Australian Turquoise - Oval Cabochon - 11.2ct
Australian turquoise from Ammaroo Station in the Northern Territory is quite a scarce stone. The deposit is small and has only been sporadically mined over the years. The location is very remote and is situated north-east of Alice Springs, not far from the centre of Australia. High quality turquoise from Ammaroo Station is very rare indeed especially finer grade material that takes a high polish. It is sort after by collectors and makes beautiful jewellery.
This turquoise cabochon is natural, untreated and solid without any backing. It is a fine example of the best quality turquoise from this location and has a high polish. The colour is a beautiful blue hue and very similar to the turquoise from the Number 8 mine in Nevada, USA. I have attached some pics below showing a suite of Ammaroo turquoise and some Number 8 cabs.

The following pictures show the Australian Ammaroo Station turquoise cabs next to each other for comparison.
Next, the same turquoise cabochons are shown with two pieces of Number 8 turquoise from Nevada. They are very similar in appearance and colour.
